The Competition was Fierce!

Congrats to Gavin Daniels, our Spelling Bee Champ!

David L. Rainer held its annual Spelling Bee January 14th, 2016. The best spellers from 4th and 5th grade competed to see who would go on to represent our school in the system-wide Spelling Bee. Tight competition made for an exciting Bee this year. After some time, two spellers were left standing. Gavin Daniels from Mr. Heatherly’s room was finally declared the champion and Nick Graves from Mrs. Douylliez’s room was runner up in the competition. Gavin will go on to the finals, which will be held January 28th at the Board of Education. I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the children who competed and the teachers who helped prepare them. Also, let’s send Gavin good wishes as he goes on to represent our school.

Happy Spelling,
Mrs. Ryan

Georgia Milestones Assessment Results Show Progress and Opportunity for Camden County Schools

The Georgia Department of Education recently released student scores from the 2014-15 administration of the Georgia Milestones Assessment System which includes End of Grade (EOG) tests in grades 3-8 and End of Course (EOC) tests in grades 9-12. Results from this first year of Georgia Milestones reveal areas of accomplishment and opportunities for growth.  As expected, due to the more rigorous standards assessed by Georgia Milestones, statewide scores were lower than teachers and parents are accustomed to receiving. Camden County’s students’ scores were, once again, higher than the state average in most areas.
