In collaboration with Cumberland Island National Seashore and the US Mint, the second graders of Camden County helped celebrate the official launch of the new Cumberland Island Quarter! It is the 44th issue of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, and the only quarter to honor a national seashore. In the weeks prior to the ceremony, the children learned all about Cumberland Island and the minting process, wrote about what they learned, and designed quarters of their own featuring scenes of Cumberland Island. Twenty DLR students were honored for their writing, and 16 for their artistic designs. Each child in attendance received a shiny, newly-minted Cumberland Island quarter. It was a historic day for our children and our spectacular Cumberland Island!
